When Zairian President Mobutu Sese Seko spoke to a group of government officials about the problem of corruption in his country in 1976, he didn't come right out and tell them to quit stealing altogether. He just told them to dial it back. “If you want to steal, steal a little cleverly, in a nice way. If you steal so much as to become rich overnight, you will be caught.”
Somebody is probably offering similar advice to Islamist terrorists in Iraq in light of the murder of more than 50 Christians by Al Qaeda terrorists in Baghdad on Oct. 31. By killing so many Christians at once, they overwhelmed the ability of Western intellectuals and religious leaders to sweep the problem of Islamist violence against Christians under the rug...read more

The Camp David II summit and the "Aqsa intifada" that followed have confirmed what everyone had long known: Jerusalem is the knottiest issue facing Arab and Israeli negotiators.
In part, the problem is practical: the Palestinians insist that the capital of Israel serve as the capital of their future state too, something Israelis are loathe to accept. But mostly, the problem is religious: the ancient city has sacred associations for Jews and Muslims alike (and Christians too, of course; but Christians today no longer make an independent political claim to Jerusalem), and both insist on sovereignty over their overlapping sacred areas...The Muslim Claim to Jerusalem

Yet another secret nuclear site in Iran may have just been exposed. A scientist kidnapped by Baluchi militants is providing personal testimony that he worked at a secret uranium enrichment facility with the explicit purpose of creating a nuclear bomb. Color Purple Author Smears Israel with False Colors
It's just too easy to tarnish Israel's reputation!
From CAMERA:
Well-known author/poet Alice Walker (1983 Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction for The Color Purple), also something of a fringe activist, vilified Israel and Jews in interviews during an April 2010 promotional tour for her new book, Overcoming Speechlessness: A Poet Encounters the Horror in Rwanda, Eastern Congo and Palestine/Israel. The book deals with Walker's 2008-09 travels to Africa and "Palestine/Israel" (mainly the Gaza Strip). In interviews (from San Francisco and New York), listeners hear about Walker's personal experiences and knowledge of white Southerners' treatment of African-Americans, the brutality of which she describes. Subsequently in the interviews, Walker mistakenly equates this treatment with Israeli behavior toward Palestinian Arabs...read more
Celebrated poet and fiction writer Margaret Atwood, the recipient of the Dan David Prize at Tel Aviv University last May, should stick to the world of fiction. In a Sept. 17 piece in Ha'aretz entitled "Suffering of Palestinian children is something both sides can agree on," Atwood cites a 2009 report by Save the Children U.K. called "Life on the Edge," claiming that document finds that "the rate of malnutrition of the children in Area C [of the West Bank, under full Israeli control] is higher than even that in Gaza, and many kids are not only developmentally stunted, but are dying from related illnesses." But the 70-page document says nothing about child malnutrition or mortality, either caused by illnesses related to malnutrition, developmental stunting, or otherwise. This is pure invention on the part of Ms. Atwood, whose piece appeared in the Yom Kippur issue of the Israeli publication...Ha'aretz, Margaret Atwood, Fabricate Allegation of Child Deaths

Canada paid the price yesterday for its principled foreign policy stance, especially for its support of Israel, when it lost its bid to Portugal for a non-permanent seat on the powerful United Nations Security Council. BBC Panorama Distorts the Facts About Jerusalem
From CAMERA:
"Finding a route to peace in [Jerusalem] is not exactly a walk in the park," says Jeremy Vine in a play on words to introduce the January 18th segment of BBC's "Panorama," entitled "A Walk in the Park." The segment presents alleged attempts by Israeli Jews to "change the demographics of East Jerusalem" and the title refers to the green areas being developed to link communities around Jerusalem. But viewers learn far less about the difficulty of "finding a route to peace" in Jerusalem than they do about the difficulty of finding objective information on the BBC.
Narrator Jane Corbin takes viewers on a "walking tour" of "what is happening on the ground" in eastern Jerusalem, scurrying from one "stop" to another to report on Israel's alleged misdeeds. Omitting essential facts and context that explain Israel's position, she provides a one-sided perspective that establishes Israelis as the villains and the Palestinians as their innocent victims...continue reading.
A phenomenon that continues to perplex me is that of Jews turning against Israel. One day I'd love to sit down with one and ask, WHY? Again from CAMERA:
In 1505, a Moravian Jew named Joseph Pfefferkorn denounced his faith and undertook a campaign to get the Talmud banned by claiming it blasphemed Christianity. Pfefferkorn was unschooled and a criminal, but that didn't stop the Dominicans in Cologne, who at the time were eager to cast aspersions on the Jews, from employing him. They recognized the value of a Jew accusing other Jews...Anna Baltzer - Jewish Defamer of Israel
CNN's Christiane Amanpour can't seem to help herself. Whatever the subject of the program, she's inclined to inject mention of Israel and its alleged myriad faults. An interview with Tibet's revered Dalai Lama prompted her to insert jarring comparisons of Tibet and the Palestinian "nakba." (Though with no musings on the absence of Tibetan suicide bombers.)...Amanpour's Impulse: Smear Israel
Throughout his years as a commentator on the Israeli-Arab conflict, Henry Siegman has consistently toed the Palestinian line that Israel is to blame for the failure to resolve the conflict. In a Jan. 25, 2010 article in The Nation, Siegman essentially promotes the current strategy of the Palestinian Authority leadership to bypass a negotiated settlement with Israel in favor of "forceful outside intervention." The purpose of this strategy is to compel Israel to accept a Palestinian state under the conditions demanded by the Palestinians...Henry Siegman Promotes Forceful Intervention Against Israel
From FrontPageMag:
The past year brought a fresh wave of anti-Israel rhetoric and accusations, most of which cited Israel’s “siege” of Gaza during last winter’s Operation Cast Lead as evidence of Israel’s injustice toward the Palestinians. The international press frequently echoed calls by human rights groups and activists to “end Israel’s illegal blockade” and “liberate Gaza.” Such messages have been conceived to undermine Israel and present a very misleading picture of the actual Gaza conflict...Eyeless in Gaza

The UN Kicks Out a Leading Critic
I'd never heard of Prof Anne Bayefsky before the FrontPageMag article. I did a little digging and came up with some data and a few interesting YouTube videos, one of which follows the article.
The United Nations security department briefly detained a leading UN critic, Anne Bayefsky earlier this month and then escorted her out of the building after stripping her of her accreditation pass. Ms. Bayefsky, who is affiliated with a UN-recognized non-governmental organization and is an accredited United Nations observer, also happens to be a human rights watchdog who for years has publicized the rank hypocrisy at the UN when it comes to dealing with Israel and its terrorist enemies...Continue Reading
It's not often that you find academics who sympathize with Israel. Happily, Bayefsky is one of these rare individuals. The following video was recorded during the Durban II conference, although there emerges an objection to that title by one African nation. Prof Bayefsky is trying to deliver a speech and is met with constant interruptions and objections. By the end of her allocated time, her frustration is evident. Personally, I'd be ropable. This is a revealing glimpse of what goes on at the revered UN.
Also from FrontPagemag:
These people need our prayers.
Serious threats imposed by the Islamic Republic’s Revolutionary guards did not stop thousands of protestors from marching in the streets of Tehran last Sunday. The protestors wanted to make it clear that the post-election momentum has not dissipated...Iranian Momentum Still Going Strong

Israel 1967 Through 1991 - High Noon for Israel
The years from 1967 through 1991 were a turbulent period in the Middle East reaching from the end of the Six Day War in 1967 through the beginning of the Oslo Peace Process in 1991. Israel continued to struggle with the Palestinian Arabs and neighboring Arab countries as they waged war on Israel, conventionally in the surprise attacks and invasion of the 1973 Yom Kippur War and through terrorism, diplomatic pressures, and economic warfare through use of the "oil weapon". This period saw the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) emerge and be recognized as the Palestinian's leader. The PLO masterminded some of history's worst atrocities as they attempted to use terrorism to destroy Israel when it became clear that conventional wars were not going to achieve that goal...read more

FrontPageMag interviews George Gilder re Israel:
Gilder: Of all the nations in the world, Israel ranks first in per capita achievement and excellence. By any per capita measure it is preeminent, whether in technological innovation and invention, venture capital investment and creativity, share of GDP produced by technology companies, or number and quality of scientific papers. But even more impressive, Israel ranks second only to the U.S. in companies on the NASDAQ stock exchange and in achievements in such fields as telecom, microchips, software, biotech, medical instruments, and clean-tech. Israel today represents and symbolizes capitalist excellence and freedom...The Israel Test
From Palestinian Media Watch:
Hamas's demand that the UN not include Holocaust education in schools in Gaza drew widespread international criticism last week. But the refusal to educate children about the Holocaust is not unique to Hamas. It follows the Holocaust-denying precedent set by the Palestinian Authority under Fatah and articulated by numerous PA religious and political leaders, including Mahmoud Abbas.
In the latest news, Hamas demanded that the Jewish Holocaust be deleted from the UN-prepared human rights curriculum for 8th grade, according to the PA daily Al-Ayyam. The next day, PA TV reported that a UN representative "strongly denied rumors that UNRWA will be teaching the subject of the Holocaust as part of its curriculum." “Peaceful” Stone-Throwers
I was recently asked about an incident that had allegedly occurred in Gaza that put Israel in a bad light. The person who asked the question has been consistently critical of Israel. At that point, I hadn't been aware of the incident, and I still haven't checked the facts. But my immediate response was to ask my friend what he knew exactly. As it emerged, he knew about as much as I did - zilch. He'd heard in the media that Israel had acted in some inappropriate way and someone wasn't happy about it and that was good enough for him. Apprarently some people naturally expect Israel to be the oppressive aggressor.
Here's an article from CAMERA that highlights media "savvy":
Fox News Channel's coverage from the West Bank on a Friday in mid-July left some viewers a little puzzled. First, the station broadcast footage of Palestinians hurling rocks toward Israeli troops. A minute later, a Fox correspondent in Israel, Reena Ninan, told viewers that the demonstrators were actually "peace activists." And after another minute, she relayed the Palestinian claim that Israel used "extreme force" when it fired tear gas because the protesters did not even throw stones — just before the footage of Palestinian stone-throwers again appeared on television screens...Read more

Israel's Tamar gas reserve bigger than expected
For Zion's Sake Ministries:
The natural gas reserve discovered off the shores of Haifa is approximately 25 to 30 percent richer than previously assessed, US oil operator Noble Energy Inc., said after drilling to verify the find. CAMERA:
In its May/June issue, the Columbia Journalism Review published an article by J.J. Golberg about charges that Israeli soldiers shot unarmed Palestinian women during its operation against Hamas in Gaza. For most of the piece, Goldberg treated the unfounded allegations as if they were true. The fact that they almost certainly were not was buried and minimized — it wasn't until the article's fourth and final page that he admitted, albeit dismissively, that the charges were shown to be mere hearsay...Read more

More on Obama's Cairo Speech
David Solway takes President Obama's infamous speech to task...and he doesn't mince words.
President Barack Obama’s famous (or infamous) Cairo address of June 4, 2009, has been subjected to the unrelenting scrutiny of many reputable observers and distinguished political scholars — and found egregiously wanting. It is replete with distortions, fabrications, lacunae, misconceptions, inaccuracies, lies, exaggerations, and outright historical fallacies. There is scarcely a passage without its resident howler. I do not have the space to run through this near-interminable list here — anyone with a decent knowledge of history or ready access to a search engine can trawl for himself — but I will provide two exemplary instances of historical error...Read more

Joel Rosenberg on the Iranian elections
Joel Rosenberg keeps track of the aftermath of the Iranian elections:
I’ve been tracking events in Iran closely over the past few days. Not since the Islamic Revolution of ‘79 have we seen such ideological ferment and such passion in the streets of Iran. The best that can be said about Monday’s victory for the moderate, pro-Western March 14 coalition in the Lebanese elections is that Hezbollah was concerned enough to warn, “The majority must commit not to question our role as a resistance party, the legitimacy of our weapons arsenal and the fact that Israel is an enemy state.” The worst that can be said is that few expect Hezbollah and the Iranian-Syrian axis it spearheads to be significantly weakened by the results...Lebanon: Stalemate With Terror

Iran's Annihilation of Israel: Made in America
By: Dick Morris and Eileen McGann FrontPageMagazine.com Tuesday, May 26, 2009
From Caroline Glick, deputy editor and op-ed writer for the Jerusalem Post, comes alarming news. An expert on Arab-Israeli relations with excellent sources deep inside Netanyahu's government, she reports that CIA chief Leon Panetta, who recently took time out from his day job (feuding with Nancy Pelosi) to travel to Israel "read the riot act" to the government warning against an attack on Iran.More ominously, Glick reports (likely from sources high up in the Israeli government) that the Obama administration has all but accepted as irreversible and unavoidable fact that Iran will soon develop nuclear weapons. She writes, "...we have learned that the [Obama] administration has made its peace with Iran's nuclear aspirations. Senior administration officials acknowledge as much in off-record briefings. It is true, they say, that Iran may exploit its future talks with the U.S. to run down the clock before they test a nuclear weapon. But, they add, if that happens, the U.S. will simply have to live with a nuclear-armed mullocracy." Read more...
Copious amounts of ink were expended warning about the Religious Right theocracy supposedly threatening America during the Bush administration, when church-going evangelicals and Roman Catholics elected conservative governing majorities. Yet the whippings, heresy trials, and burnings never got underway. However, if the speakers at a mass rally of religious leftists led by the founder of Sojourners magazine is any indication, the Religious Left intends to make the Obama administration a time to implement its own agenda. Al-Qaeda Terrorists=The Prophet Jeremiah?
For Zion's Sake Ministries:
"Israel is not like other countries," Netanyahu told his Likud faction in a meeting which came one week after his meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House. "We are faced with security challenges that no other country faces, and our need to provide a response to these is critical, and we are answering the call." 'If Israel doesn't remove Iranian threat, no one will'
During the Gaza war this year, Schmuel Kaufman, a military rabbi from a West Bank settlement, used to stride between the Israeli soldiers’ tents and urge them to fight what he deemed an “obligatory war” ordained by ancient scripture. Israel's war effort gains religious imperative

British Journalists March for Palestine
From Pajamas Media:
Did you like the film Groundhog Day? Well, even if you didn’t you will know what I mean by a “Groundhog Day” sequence of events. Two years ago I wrote in my diary about my anguish and hurt over the behavior of my fellow journalists at an NUJ (National Union of Journalists) magazine branch meeting. You may ask, “What is a good conservative lass doing hanging out with a trade union crowd?” Okay, I admit: I am a union member in Britain because I do think we workers need protection. In fact, that is why I think the NUJ exists, but every time I go to a meeting the obsession is not jobs or wages but — you guessed it — evil Israel!..Read More
...One has to be struck by the remarkable animus toward Israel demonstrated by some of the leaders of this administration, as by various pundits and politicians. It is quite astonishing to see the Obama White House dispatch waves of diplomats to make nice to Iranians–at the very moment that Tehran is stepping up the violence against Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan–while sternly warning Israel not to “surprise” us by taking action against the fanatical ayatollahs who have vowed to destroy the Jewish state....The Ancient Evil
