Christian Palestinianism and the anti-Israel Crusade

I tried to find this story in English-language media and, as expected, found nothing, except for one report in Al-Masry Al-Youm titled “Clashes between police and Coptic protesters in Minya”—as if that’s the important story (as usual, the media prefers headlines portraying harried Christian minorities as equally culpable as their Muslim persecutors, thereby justifying use of the preferred phrase, “sectarian strife“).

Sabeel's (and Sizer's) Demonizing Liturgy
Below is a 2007 article from CAMERA which should be read by all. Sabeel describes itself as a Christian organization yet it is thoroughly steeped in pro-Palestinian liberation theology that uses revisionist history and anti-Israeli propaganda. Sabeel is also heavily endorsed by the crusading anti-Zionist (they're deadly) and Israeolophobic Stephen Sizer:

Dr. Naim Ateek, founder of Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center as evidence that there are Palestinians opposed to acts of terror against Israel.
If you go on the web and you just simply were to Google an article by a Christian leader named Ateek A-T-E-E-K and he has an article published on the web [about] suicide bombers. Just type in Ateek and suicide bombers and there you will have a Christian leader, a Palestinian who actually comments on that kind of Muslim violence.
Readers who do as Rev. Dr. Burge suggests will find hundreds of links confirming that indeed, Rev. Dr. Ateek has condemned suicide bombings – in an essay written in English and using Christian theology.
While Rev. Dr. Ateek’s essay is often invoked before Christian audiences in the U.S. to demonstrate that indeed, Sabeel is a peacemaking organization, it is unlikely that Rev. Dr. Ateek’s essay contributed to the decline of suicide attacks that has taken place since 2004. Repeated Debate Challenge
Jacob Prasch wishes to repeat his challenge to publicly debate Anglican Stephen Sizer on Sizer's contentions that Zionism is apartheid and that the modern state of Israel does not fulfill biblical prophecy. As an Anglican in a church ordaining homosexual clergy and with a Druid Arch Bishop of Canterbury now calling for Britain to integrate elements of Islamic Sharia, anti Zionists like Sizer in a church with a pro Islamic hierarchical agenda must be challenged.
We are compelled by the evidence to regard Sizer as hypocritical and biblically ignorant and would relish the opportunity to demonstrate this in public debate before a video camera in a properly moderated format.
It is also difficult for us not to additionally suspect Sizer of being a pseudo-academic fraud, but he at least deserves the opportunity to demonstrate otherwise in a public forum.
In view of the widespread persecution of Arab, Persian, Asian, and African Christians throughout the Moslem world it is nothing short of ludicrous that Sizer continually targets Israel as the perpetrator of injustice when Israel is the solitary country in The Middle East assuring the rights and security of its Christian population.
Our expectation is that Sizer will continue to run as usual. This however simply serves to underscore the indefensible implausibility of his pseudo-scholarly and pseudo-biblical antics.
Apparently Rev. Sizer is currently too busy worrying about Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's recent treatment of the hapless President Obama, and all those TV interview trips to Indonesia and Malaysia to discuss those naughty Jews takes up a lot of his valuable time.
Sizer appears to be ignorant of the fact that the above countries are notorious for their selective tolerance towards Christians. I can vouch that I've met (and worked for) Christians who migrated to Australia to escape the intolerance of the dominant Muslim Indonesia and Malaysia.
Perhaps Sizer can discuss this with them during any forthcoming trips.

The discrepancy between the moderate “in some respects” and the intemperate “excessive and disastrous” is typical of Judt’s writerly stance, in which a raw personal animus breaks through the veneer of scholarly pretence. The initial deference to his subject was always a sham and disqualifies him as a respectable analyst who might be taken seriously. Darby and the early Brethren were instrumental in countering amillennial replacementism and postmillennial revivalism, and in restoring belief in the literal and future fulfilment of prophecy. The book is important because many Christians deny the miracle of Israel’s rebirth, others are confused about whether they should support Israel or not, and others that do support Israel often do not fully understand why.
Were there any aspects of your findings which particularly stood out or surprised you, or which you struggled with, during the research process?
The two most surprising aspects of my research were 1) to discover just how deep-rooted our Evangelical heritage is concerning belief in Israel’s promised restoration, and 2) to discover just how important a role dispensationalists have played in preserving this heritage.

Church of England priest Stephen Sizer, vicar of Christ Church, Virginia Water in Surrey, has made attacking Christian support for Israel his central mission. Ironically, he comes not from the church’s left-wing but its evangelical branch, giving him access to wider global audiences not otherwise available. Sizer’s latest book, Zion’s Christian Soldiers, warns that pro-Israel U.S. evangelicals have monstrously distorted the Middle East by aligning America with Israel.
“In its worst forms, Christian Zionism uses the Bible to justify racial superiority, land expropriation, home demolitions, colonial settlements, the denial of international law and the dehumanization of Arabs,” Sizer complains. It also “provides a biblical justification for U.s. intervention in the Middle East. It is deeply mistrustful of the United Nations and the European Community, and actively opposes the implementation of international law and the right of Palestinians to a sovereign state alongside Israel.” read more

Church of England priest Stephen Sizer, vicar of Christ Church, Virginia Water in Surrey, has made attacking Christian support for Israel his central mission. Ironically, he comes not from the church’s left-wing but its evangelical branch, giving him access to wider global audiences not otherwise available. Sizer’s latest book, Zion’s Christian Soldiers, warns that pro-Israel U.S. evangelicals have monstrously distorted the Middle East by aligning America with Israel.
“In its worst forms, Christian Zionism uses the Bible to justify racial superiority, land expropriation, home demolitions, colonial settlements, the denial of international law and the dehumanization of Arabs,” Sizer complains. It also “provides a biblical justification for U.s. intervention in the Middle East. It is deeply mistrustful of the United Nations and the European Community, and actively opposes the implementation of international law and the right of Palestinians to a sovereign state alongside Israel.” read more

The Syrian Fool’s Errand

True to his campaign promise to restore diplomacy to its rightful place in American foreign policy, Barack Obama is initiating “discussions” with Syria intended to resolve a whole host of divisive issues, including Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the conflict with Israel, and the festering problem of the Palestinian Arabs. Presumably, Syria “wants to engage,” according to Martin S. Indyk, Clinton’s Middle East peace negotiator, though The New York Times story did not tell us why Syria should talk now. Nor are we told what boon we can offer that could change Syria’s behavior, which includes murdering Lebanese politicians, funding and supplying Hamas and Hizbollah, and helping jihadists make their way to Iraq.
The implication of this latest news is that the previous administration, filled with unilateralist, trigger-happy neocon cowboys, worsened the crisis in the Middle East by refusing to talk with countries like Syria. This bit of received wisdom, like most liberal dogma, is misleading at best. For decades, Israel and the United States have talked with Syria, all to no avail. As Bret Stephens documents in the latest Commentary, “when it comes to the Syria track, the U.S. and Israel have walked down this road before, again and again, almost always with disappointing results.” Stephens’ survey of these efforts reveals a stark truth: talks with Syria will fail because the whole premise of these talks, that Syria sincerely wants peace with Israel, is flawed, as the record of Syria’s previous negotiations––filled with escalating demands, calculated snubs and insults of U.S. and Israeli politicians, and arrogant dismissals of generous Israeli offers––confirms...read more

Last weekend the Revd Stephen Sizer, vicar of Christ Church, Virginia Water appeared at an anti-Israel meeting with an Islamist called Ismail Patel. Patel has not only accused Israel of ‘genocide’ and ‘war crimes’ but considers Disney to be a Jewish plot and supports Hamas, Iran and Syria.
Sizer is a virulent opponent of Christian Zionism and of Israel, which he has said he hopes will disappear just as did the apartheid regime in South Africa. He has also applauded Iranian President Ahmadinejad for having ‘looked forward to the day when Zionism ceased to exist’.
